Bio
Witold Krassowski studied linguistics at the University of Warsaw and the Université de Paris III, Sorbonne Nouvelle. He received his doctorate in photography at the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia in Katowice and later a habilitation degree at the Academy of Fine Arts, Warsaw, Department of Media Arts.
Very early in life, his photographic hobby became his career. His photographic work was widely published in various media across Europe. He won a World Press Photo award (twice) and served on the jury of this contest. In 2007 he received The International Red Cross Confederation Award. He was equally successful in other photographic competitions in Poland, Britain, and Iran. He presented his work in London (Photographers’ Gallery), Munich, Köln, Lisbon, Brussels (Berlaymont House, headquarters of the European Commission), Kiev, Chicago, and Moscow (Multimedia Art Museum Moscow (MAMM), 2019). He participated in international projects and festivals: the Hope Project, the Inferno-Paradiso Project, Magic Moments II, Behind Walls Noorderlicht Photofestival, London Street Photography Festival. Has published five books so far: Visages de l’Est, 1991, After-Images of Poland, 2009, Grand Finale, 2011, I Am Still Afraid of Screams, 2017 and Sackcloth and Ashes, 2020.
Presently he leads a course in social photography at the Department of Media Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts, Warsaw.
Bardzo wcześnie jego hobby fotograficzne stało się karierą. Jego prace były szeroko publikowane w różnych mediach w całej Europie. Dwukrotnie zdobył nagrodę World Press Photo i zasiadał w jury tego konkursu. W 2007 roku otrzymał nagrodę Międzynarodowej Konfederacji Czerwonego Krzyża. Odniósł podobne sukcesy w innych konkursach fotograficznych w Polsce, Wielkiej Brytanii i Iranie. Prezentował swoje prace w Londynie (Photographers’ Gallery), Monachium, Kolonii, Lizbonie, Brukseli (w Berlaymont House, głównej siedzibie Komisji Europejskiej), Kijowie, Chicago i Moskwie (Multimedia Art Museum Moscow (MAMM), 2019). Brał udział w międzynarodowych projektach i festiwalach: Hope Project, Inferno-Paradiso Project, Magic Moments II, Behind Walls Noorderlicht Photofestival, London Street Photography Festival. Opublikował dotychczas pięć książek: Visages de l’Est, 1991, After-Images of Poland, 2009, Pieśń na wyjście, 2011, I Am Still Afraid of Screams, 2017 oraz Sackcloth and Ashes, 2020.
Obecnie prowadzi pracownię fotografii społecznej na Wydziale Sztuki Mediów Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Warszawie.
